Administrative / biographical background:

A chapel was built at the corner of Brighton Street and Victoria Road (later Borough Road) by the Wesleyan Methodists in 1839. This was sold in 1856 to the Welsh Calvinistic Methodists, and a day school was built in Brighton Street. Services were held there until the new chapel was completed in 1859. The premises were closed in 1966 and sold to Wallasey Corporation.
